On Wednesday 14th October, Kings' Dubai held its first open day of the year . The Open day is an opportunity for for prospective families to view the school and find out about what Kings' has to offer.
As usual the responsibility for showing our guests round fell to Year 6. It was wonderful to see the pride and dedication with which our older pupils took in carrying out this duty. I think it says a great deal about Kings' and about the calibre of pupils we have to be able to completely trust them to show groups of guests around the school, take questions and proudly talk about the curriculum, organisation and developments within the school.
At the start of the session I began by telling the prospective parents that I wouldn't be talking for long and would be handing over to the Year 6 children who would answer the majority of the questions they had. I always receive some very skeptical looks at this point - many not sure of what to expect. Our eager Year 6 tour guides then kicked into action! It was a pleasure to hear the running commentaries and abundance of information imparted. Our visitors certainly left with a great deal of information. One gentleman at the end of his tour with two children came to me and said "I really didn't believe you when you said that the Year 6 children would be able to answer all of my questions, but they have.... and more! They are so knowledgeable about not just their year group but right the way through the school - and they are obviously very proud!"
What better compliment could we receive!
Many visitors commented on the children's positive attitude, impeccable manners and enthusiasm.
A big thank you to all of the children who took part during the day and to those who came back in the evening. The event was very successful thanks to the childrens enthusiasm and commitment. I am very proud of Year 6 - Well done.
