SWINE FLU ADVICE

Advice to parents

While schools remain open during the Swine Flu pandemic, parents are strongly advised to continue to send their children to school unless they show symptoms of flu. It is important to be able to recognise Swine Flu and know what to do if you think that you or your child might have it.

How do you tell if your child has Swine Flu?

If your child has a temperature of 38.C or above and any two of the following symptoms you should contact a doctor.

Tiredness, headache, runny nose, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrohea, aching muscles or joints.

If your child has Swine Flu:

They should stay at home and be treated for their symptoms. As with a cold or common flu, they should drink plenty of fluids, rest and take paracetamol to control the temperature. In any event take the advice of your Doctor.

Your Doctor may prescribe the Tami flu vaccine.

If your child has been away from school with Swine Flu, please inform the school reception and school nurse.

Students should not return to school until all symptoms have subsided. If in doubt, please ask the school nurse.

Thank you for your cooperation
