Newsletter January 2009

Dear Parents and Children

Welcome back, after what I hope was a very restful and enjoyable Christmas break. May I take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year and extend a warm welcome to new families joining Kings’ Dubai this term.

We welcome Mr Mark Wood to the team as ICT specialist teacher. Mark joins us from a Technology College in the UK where he has had a very successful background in ICT teaching and learning. He will be working with both pupils and teachers to really move the ICT provision and teaching forward at Kings’. Welcome also to Mrs Lisa Woods (no relation to Mark!) who joins us as Teaching Assistant in FS1 with Miss Ogilvie.

The Specialist parents consultation meetings held this week were very successful, giving parents an opportunity to meet and discuss individual childrens progress in Music, PE, Arabic, Islamic Studies and French. The mid term reports issued earlier in the week aim to give parents a formal reflection of their child’s performance in school and also set important targets for children to work towards. Ongoing information about childrens progress and achievements is shared through their Learning Journals which can be reviewed at our weekly Parents Hour, every Thursday 12.40 – 1.40pm. We suggest that parents try to attend Parents Hour every three weeks to look at the work in the classrooms and review the comments made in Learning Journals.

I always look forward to the Spring term as it is the term when academically the most advances are made as children blossom in their year groups and really get to grips with their work. Already this term we have seen many children make it into the Gold Book for their outstanding achievements and efforts.

We continue at Kings’ to move towards a more environmentally friendly communication system and therefore this will be the last printed Kings’ Dubai Newsletter that will be sent home. From February all Newsletters will be sent electronically via email. All correspondence will also be sent via email unless it is a letter that requires a parent’s signature.

We trust you will support this move and should your email details change please inform reception and your childs’ class representative so we can keep up to date with details. Thank you to the class reps who are invaluable in making this service happen.

It is with great pleasure I can share news of two additions to the Kings’ family. Over the Christmas holidays, Mrs Wensley, our learning support teacher, gave birth to a baby girl - Darcy Wensley. Mr Whitehead, Key Stage 2 Manager became a proud father to Thomas Phillip Whitehead born 11th January 2009. Warmest wishes go to both families.

With best wishes for the term ahead.
Regards
