Newsletter November 2008

Dear Parents and Children

Congratulations to all staff and pupils at Kings’ Dubai for their efforts leading up to and during the recent inspection. The Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau will be inspecting all schools this year. It was a very rigorous inspection but the verbal feedback was extremely positive. We await now the summary report and findings. Once again I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. We have had a very busy few weeks and many of the wonderful things happening at school would not be possible without the support of parents in so many different ways.

Congratulations to our Swim Team who recently made history by bringing home the first ever trophies for the school! The dedicated youngsters of the swimming squad have trained hard throughout the term and this was reflected at a recent event in Abu Dhabi where the children competed against six other teams in the Inter Schools Swimming Gala B. Kings’ Dubai won the Year 3, Year 5 and Year 6 events and the overall Gala. This was a tremendous achievement and I am extremely proud of the participants. Their team spirit, effort and attitude, as well as the swimming should be congratulated. A huge thank you to Lisa and Sandra for their dedication and hard work with the swimmers.

Congratulations also to the Year 5 and Year 6 football teams who have recently competed in several inter school competitions. Their attitude and determination coupled with strong team spirit has been acknowledged. Thank you to Mr. O Neill and Miss Frame who have led the teams and arranged the various fixtures. The Football and Netball tournament at DESS on Thursday 27th November will be the final fixture of this year. We wish our teams the best of luck.

It is pleasing to see Kings’ Dubai entering inter-school events and holding our own at competitions. Considering the small size of our school we are doing very well against the much larger schools. It is inevitable that when competition events happen some children will naturally be disappointed that they have not been selected. I would like to applaud and commend those children who have shown tremendous spirit in such situations. Many children have continued to support their team mates and shown true sportsmanship.

In music, Kings’ children have goine from strength to strength. On Saturday 22nd November the choir performed at the Gold and Diamond Park at the ‘Centre for Musical Arts’ open evening. A flute and recorder ensemble from Kings’ also performed. The evening was to celebrate the achievements of CMA – the provider of our peripatetic music in school. The children were a credit to the school both in their performance and their excellent behaviour and attitude. Well done to Oisin Morgan and Rory Quick (Y5KON) who passed their Grade 1 Clarinet exam through CMA recently.

In the last few weeks of this term we have many exciting events approaching. Details are outlined in the remainder of this Newsletter, the last of the Winter Term. To these ends, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year

Best wishes

Mrs Debbie Watson
