Key Stage 1

Key Stage 1 builds upon the learning experiences in the Foundation Stage. Children enjoy a range of experiences, ranging from creative and practical activities to more formal written activities.

Using a thematic approach to teaching, combining Literacy with key Science, History, Geography and Design Technology topics, our theme work also incorporates meaningful art. The use of I.C.T in the classroom, role-play and school trips also enhances the curriculum.

There is major focus on key Literacy skills like reading, spelling and handwriting. Maths is an important area and children receive.

Our curriculum is supported by Specialist lessons - P.E., I.C.T, French, Arabic and Music.

Throughout KS1 children are encouraged to develop their ‘best presentation work’, examples of which are kept in portfolios.

Children and parents receive feedback on performance via our Learning Journals and weekly meetings. Ongoing assessments take place throughout the year with formal assessments in May.
