WEEKLY NEWS
Issue3 WB 16th May 2010
Dear Parents,
CONGRATULATIONS - OUSTANDING AGAIN!
We are famous!!! This last week has seen the spotlight on Kings'. We are officially the only school in Dubai to have achieved the Outstanding status twice. This is a tremendous achievement and we are very proud. There has been much coverage in the newspaper and on local TV. This years' report is now available to read both on the KHDA website and the school website.
For those who missed seeing the City 7 news item, it can be viewed online by following the link: http://www.city7tv.com/newcity7news.asp and then select Monday 10th May from the archive box.
THE KINGS' DUBAI GRAND BALL
Last Thursday evening saw a very glamourous side to our parent body as they donned their posh frocks and headed to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel for the 3rd Kings' Dubai Grand Ball. An outstanding night of entertainment delighted over three hundred parents and friends in support of the selected school charities: K9 friends and The Red Cross.
The VOKs ball committee made up of a group of very dedicated parents had organised a superb event which raised almost 100, 000 AED for the charities. This is a staggering amount although the final figure is yet to be tallied and we will report it you once calculated.
Thank you to all, for their generosity and kindness. Could all those who pledged bids in the auction please arrange to come into school to collect their items. The event was sponsored by many local businesses and our sincere thanks go to them all. The full details of the event will posted on our website along with photographs of the night.
Sincere thanks must go to Susanne Williams and Gillian Tappuni who co-ordinated the teams. A very special thank you to Mr Paul Scally who made very generous donations to the evening, including securing and bringing out from the UK, the very talented Matthew Crane, a young 17 year old baritone singer who is sure to be a name to watch for the future. Paul was also the MC for the evening and did a wonderful job.
A very enjoyable evening shared by many. Thank you to all who contributed to make it happen.
SHOES
Many children are losing shoes or leaving them behind at the ned of after school activities. We appreciate that these are costly items and urge all parents to put their child's name in permanent marker on the inside of each shoe. Many of the black shoes are the same and can be easily mistaken. A reminder please that the required footwear for school is as follows:
Girls: White ankle socks (not trainer socks)
Black leather shoes with T bar or strap fastening. Shoes with platform soles or high heels are not permitted.
Boys: Dark grey ankle socks. Black leather shoes with either lace or Velcro fastening
Sandals, flip flops and trainers are not permitted.
Any child wearing alternative footwear should have a note from a parent with a legitimate reason as to why the school footwear cannot be worn and this must be for a very short time period only.

SWIM SQUAD
Good luck to the Swim squad who will be swimming against Jebel Ali Primary school in a gala this Thursday at Kings'. Please encourage as many supporters as possible to cheer on our home team!
CMA
Many children at Kings' receive peripatetic music tuition from CMA. Children currently enjoy tuition in a wide range of instruments and letters will be coming out soon confirming whether you wish to continue your children's instrumental lessons next year or change to another instrument. Kings' is delighted that from September, we have spaces for some additional brass players to take up the trumpet or trombone and we are also lucky enough to be able to offer tuition on the cello to a limited number of students. Please contact Mrs Anderson directly at
